Parks and Walsh Named to All Conference Team
by Brad Schock posted 05/16/2012

Mitchell Parks and Bryan Walsh were named today to the First Team All-Conference for the Cascade Conference in the WHSBLA.

For Parks, a graduating Senior, it was the third time being named to the First Team All-Conference, having accomplished the feat as both a Sophomore and Junior when he was named to the Eastern Washington All-Conference First Teams.   Parks in his career with WVL also has the distinction of being the only player in the history of the WHSBLA to be named player of the week, two weeks in a row.

Walsh, also a graduating senior, is also a mulitple time selection having been named First Team for the Eastern Washington Conference as a Junior.  His hard work and dedication to the WVL HS Boys team during his tenure was a key factor in all of the successes the squad has enjoyed.

WVL joined the Cascade Conference this year as a result of the decision by the WHSBLA to eliminate the Eastern Washington Conference in order to provide a wider variety of teams for Wenatchee, Selah, and Three Rivers to play.  Considering the level of skill within the Cascade Conference increased significantly over the Eastern Washington Conference, these players being named is a great accomplishment, and a feather in their cap as they head off on new adventures.

Girls LAX Play Well, Lose to Roosevelt by 1
by posted 04/29/2012

In what Coach Schock called "the best game this season," Wenatchee Valley Varsity Girls lost 11-12 in the final minutes of a physical game against Roosevelt on 4-28-12.
Roosevelt scored the first goal of the game in the first 30 seconds but Wenatchee's Greta Schock answered back 2 minutes later on the home field. The game seesawed again with Roosevelt scoring 2 more goals at 21:51 and 19:50. Three minutes later McKenna Smith took it to the goal and then Riley Hurt scored to tie the game at 3-3 just 11 minutes into the first half.
The awesome hometeam defense kicked into gear and began shutting down Roosevelt which went scoreless for over 10 minutes. Wenatchee hit the net 3 more times led by Liv Colson who assisted her sister Darbi Colson's goal, then scored with an assist by Alexa Andre, and then scored unassisted at 12:27. WVL held onto their lead for the next 25 minutes.
Roosevelt's #5 Adrienne Leonard (Washington state's 2nd leading scorer) eventually would score 5 goals against Wenatchee. But Carly Helton scored at 8:39, Darbi Colson was assisted in a goal by Andre at 8:06 and Tawnee Tidd assisted another Andre goal a minute before halftime, bringing the lead to 9-7 at the half.
WVL defense continued to cause turnovers in the 2nd half and Wenatchee did a great job of winning the draw control 11 out of 25 draws and took 43 ground ball controls by the finish. After another unassisted goal by Tidd, Roosevelt's #5 tied it up 10-10 at 13:32 and then took the lead. Schock tied it 11-11 at 7:39. #5 came in with the game-winning score at 2:28 and Roosevelt's defense held off a mighty WVL effort to score once more before the final buzzer.
"I'm really, really proud of this group of girls," said Coach Schock. "They showed amazing tenacity and fortitude."
